Hiking around in the round

Lake Geneva, WI – South Shore

We are again in Lake Geneva this week. This time, we are hiking the entire lake shore starting with the South Shore. This is a long entry with lots of video and the day turned into one of the best autumn days of 2020. This was a long 23 mile day, with 50,000 steps, and we both had a great time.

Be sure and use your 360° VR Goggles and our playlist to have the best experience. If you have the option to increase the stream resolution, be sure and take advantage of our 4K recordings.

Most of our videos are filmed in a full 360 arc, this means you should be able to use your device to move the video around and up and down. If you are having issues or if you are watching with VR goggles, click over and watch our Hike360vr playlist directly on YouTube.

I talk about our 23 mile hike around Lake Geneva. This will be our longest 1-day hike of the year and I’m pretty excited. Full Lake Geneva Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwXkL…
We have so many videos on Lake Geneva from this hike, that we are releasing 2 a day. Please visit our play list for this hike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwXkL…
Stone Manor is a quick walk from downtown Lake Geneva. As you hear, our history about this house is certain and unflappable. This is the kind of attention to detail we shoot for when we hike : )
Looking at the lake in high winds at the beach of Bigfoot State Park. This was a cold moment for us but really pretty cool to be at the end of the wind tunnel.
After walking down the highway for short way, the path turns inland. This was a nice break from the high winds. Finally, we break through to the Lake Geneva Country Club. Dad talks about some family history and reveals a tragic oversight from his childhood.
Walking along the Lake Geneva Golf course, we watch a few die-hards playing in the cold morning temps and winds.
More childhood memories from Scott as we approach Black Point. Also, he talks about his current ankle injury which occurred about 30 minutes before we filmed this video.
Walking along the lake shore at Black Point. Turns out, we are related to the Seipps, who settled this area of Lake Geneva. We recommend taking a tour of the Black Point, Lake Geneva Museum. There is a pretty good hard copy book about the Seipp family history. The book has a childhood photo of my grand-father, Frank Lowden Madlener. We continue along the shore and visit the houses of my great-aunt and grandfather. My dad grew up here and spent weekends and summers.
In a moment of historical reverence, we leave a stone and sticker. Then my dad tells stories about “The house on the Hill” and sledding down the hill.
A final childhood story from dad about the Northwestern Military Academy.
The path along the lake is one of a kind. This is a great hike and this section invites path walkers to sit and enjoy for a while. “Come on out and do this hike.”
I tell the story about our 4th of July hike this summer. We had to run the last mile in order to catch the Mail Boat, which arrived at Fontana early.
Crossing the bridge into fontana and walking along the Fontana beach. You can see that the weather has completely turned around and we now have a beautiful blue sky and warm weather.
We stopped and picnicked in Fontana. Now we are hiking along the North Shore on our way to the city of Lake Geneva. We talk about our food exchange with other hikers.
Entering Williams Bay and talking about the ducks.
We stop along a bluff outside of Williams Bay. The landscape, the water, the wind, and the sun all conspire for one of the most beautiful nature moments we’ve had all year. Make sure and spin the 360 video around to experience the whole scene.
We are fully enjoying our hike. We are about 14-15 miles into the day and its clear that we are going to finish.
In late October, near Halloween, the piers are coming out and the summer homes are closing down. This section of the hike is flanked with both pier materials and empty homes which makes it feel oddly lonely. Then, all of a sudden, the gardens and year round homes reappear.
We are back at Alta Vista. Our 4th of July video captures the look during the summer peak. This video catches the house at the peak of autumn and fall colors. https://youtu.be/hJS9YoaVBqc
We visit House in the Woods again. This time we see the fall colors. Watch our video from the 4th of July weekend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZaaA…
October around Lake Geneva may bring some fantasy and folklore. Make sure and spin the 360 video around to see the cowardly lion or a scarecrow.
We leave the yellow brick road and visit the Driehaus Estate.
The Jens Jenson garden changes over and prepares for winter. Click and watch our video of the Edgewood estate on the 4th of July weekend: https://youtu.be/JRk-WMTw9qQ
We finish the hike, 23 miles and 50,000 steps. The weather cooperated and the fall colors were spectacular. Watch our summer hike playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQOYS…
