Devil’s Lake State Park is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and is Wisconsin’s most popular state park with about 3 million visitors per year. The over 9,000-acre park anchors more than 27,000 acres of parkland and natural areas open to public recreation in Sauk County.
When planning a visit to Wisconsin’s busiest state park, it’s best to know a few things before you arrive, like Devil’s Lake State Park is busy!! With around 3 million visitors per year, you can expect the park to be packed on summer weekends, holidays, and often during the week as well. In fact, on peak weekends, you can expect long lines and full lots by 10 am. So bring your patience!
Devil’s Lake State Park is a special place. I spent the day hiking around the entire lake.

I climb to the top of the east bluff at Devil’s Lake to get the best view of the lake I could find.
I continue on the trail on the East Bluff of Devil’s Lake State Park. So much to see! Such a fun hiking location!
I finish my hike on the East Bluff. I resume at the best vista of the West Bluff at Devil’s Lake. If you can, hike the entire lake here. Comparing the two bluffs was a really cool experience for me.
It is a tough, steep descent down the East Bluff. The purple rocks are called Baraboo Quartzite and are unique to Sauk County.
I hike from the East Bluff to the West Bluff along the South Shore of Devil’s Lake. This is a good spot to eat lunch on the picnic tables.
I finish my hike today at Devil’s Lake. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have been able to travel here and spend a day getting familiar with the entirety of this State Park. I said it before…This is a special place.
